– a place where something flourishes, is most typically found, or from which it originates.
‘Home’ has become a blurry concept for Chris and I. We lived in the UK for the best part of the last three years but I never completely eased into the homely vibes. We’re now back in our home country Australia but living in Sydney, a brand new city, and although familiar in many ways it still remains foreign at this stage. So here I am in no-womans-land just outside of ‘home’. I’m curious about those markers that create ‘home’ and belonging and am determined to move towards these things – people new and old, doing good enjoyable work, exploring physical places and enjoying more life with the one person I have attempted to make ‘home’ with these last 7 years (it’s Chris if you didn’t guess!).
So here’s to finding home wherever you are!
We wanted to share with you some of the details from our journey from London to Sydney via Kuala Lumpur. You may be planning a move to Australia (or another country) and I hope this will help in one way or another. Or you may just be curious about our journey so please keep reading!
In this post you will find:
- Moving Checklist
- Flight Details
- Tips for a stop over in Kuala Lumpur
- A few glimpses of our new home, Sydney
As you can imagine there are quite a few logistics involved when moving abroad. You may not share my enjoyment for checklists so I’ve put together one HERE to help anyone who is about to go through the process.
Malaysia Airlines partnered with us on our journey home and assisted with economy flights from London to Kuala Lumpur (we stopped over for three nights) and Kuala Lumpur to Sydney. The in-flight food and entertainment was great quality and certainly made for a more pleasant 20+ hours on board!
Tips for a Stop Over in Kuala Lumpur
We arrived in KL pretty tired after a big month of packing up our lives but we will still excited to explore a new city, in a new continent. This is by no means an exhaustive list of things to do and see in KL but we really enjoyed the following five.
1. Wander the city and enjoy the juxtapositions of new and old
2. Explore Chinatown
3. Dinner on Jalan Alor food street
4. Enjoy cocktails and skyline views at Troika Sky Dining and Sky Bar
Glimpses of our new home, Sydney
We made it to Sydney! We’ve now been here for just over two weeks and have found short term accommodation in Mosman. There are ample leafy bayside walks and Balmoral Beach a 30 minute walk away. Also, with a ferry wharf close by we feel really lucky to enjoy one of the most stunning commutes into the city.
I’m certain we will be using every spare moment to get out and become more acquainted with this beautiful city! We’re excited to share more in the coming weeks and months. Follow along on Instagram (@brownchris and @phebrown).
Again a huge thank you to Malaysia Airlines for helping us with the journey to our new home!
