If you’ve ever flown from Australia to Europe or vice versa you would know that it is LOOONG. When Chris and I started planning our return journey home to Australia after living in the UK for 2 years and 9 months we settled on the idea of breaking up the 22 hour journey (plus lay over time) with a three night stop over in Kuala Lumpur.
KL is 13 hours from London and Sydney 8.5 hours from KL, so taking a relaxing break in between makes for much more palatable flying times.
With relaxation high on our agenda, we were over the moon when The Ritz Carlton offered to put us up for the three nights.
This is an overview of our ritzy stop over in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!
This luxurious suite was a very welcome sight to two weary travellers! Without a wink of sleep on the flight over we dived straight into bed to catch up on a few hours before exploring the rest of the hotel.
The Ritz Carlton, KL was recently refurbished in 2016 and exudes luxury from the moment you are greeted at the front doors. Just check out the size of this chandler dangling boldly in the lobby! I was tempted to put on my best Sia impersonation whilst looking up at this spectacle.
We set aside time (okay a lot of time) to kick back by the two swimming pools and to indulge in a little pampering in Spa Village. Our couples massage blended ancient and modern practices and was an experience for the senses.
The Ritz Carlton, KL of course offers amazing culinary experiences. Let me list some of the highlights:
Dinner at The Library
3 or 4 course Menu du Jour with matched wines (go the four, you know you want to).
Breakfast in The Cobalt Room
There is something for everyone at this expansive buffet breakfast. But you’re in Asia so go on have a curry, a couple of pork buns and a sushi roll. If that’s a little too scary for breakfast you can have your eggs cooked to order and every other European breakfast comfort that one can start their day with.
Afternoon Tea in The Lobby Lounge
I always dreamed of partaking in Afternoon Tea at the Ritz Carlton London but never got there, so I couldn’t have been happier seeing it included in our hotel itinerary in KL. Three tiers of scrumptious delights, a starter, a plate of scones on the side and two pots of tea. My advice: Come hungry!
Lunch at Li Yen
Award winning Cantonese for the win! We ordered on staff recommendations which included hairy crab dumplings, crispy duck skin wraps, mango pudding and avocado cream. A little different to our usual Chinese order but everything was super delicious.
We absolutely loved our ritzy stop over in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A relaxing three days at the Ritz Carlton was just what we needed after a stressful few months organising our move from London. Happy travelling!
