A weekend escape in Salzburg, Austria is a must on any European bucket list!
This one for us was particularly special because it marked our last European weekend away before we relocate back to Australia. We couldn’t have wished for a better way to farewell Europe either!
Here is the low down on our weekend away.
We were kindly hosted by Hotel Goldglasse one of the Small Luxury Hotels and there was no shortage of charm and personality! Little surprise details like complimentary drinks, boutique teas and toiletries really added to the cosiness of the hotel.
Wander the City
Salzburg is just a delight to wander. It feels like you are travelling through a fairytale land with horse drawn carts and a castle perched on a hill. Notable spots to visit include Mirabell Palace Gardens, the Getreidegasse (the bustling high street and home of Mozart) and local brewery Augustinerbräu – Kloster Mülln.
Take a road trip and enjoy the Alpine Scenery
Part of the reason we chose Salzburg as our last European escape was so we could have a little bit of everything – a pretty city, culture, good food and beautiful scenery. So after exploring the city on day 1 we woke up early the next day and hired a car to set off on an alpine road trip. The scenery was truly breathtaking and we can’t recommend enough that you do this! With a bit of Instagram research and help from the hotel staff we settled on the following itinerary:
Stop 1 Bluntauseen
Stop 2: UNESCO World Heritage Site – HallstattStop 3: St Wolfgang
As usual I’ve let the pictures do the talking. Salzburg and the surrounding lakes area are absolutely stunning and we loved our weekend here. Seriously how are we going to live without destinations like this on our doorstep?!
We are truly grateful for all the amazing experiences we have had while living in Europe these last 2 years and 8 months. Now we are looking forward to heading home to Australia, spending time with family, enjoying the sunshine and seeing where life takes us next…
