Perched 2000 metres above sea level on the rocky cliffs of Saiq Plateau, Oman, sits the highest five star resort in the Middle East: Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort. This is where part one of our magical Omani journey began and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
I love a beach resort as much as the next person but there was something beautifully emotive about experiencing this unique rugged landscape, to stand on the edge of an epic canyon and feel insignificant yet so alive.
Words truly do not do this place justice so let me stop here and show you what we saw, did, ate and drank.
Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort
In the resort itself you won’t feel denied a single luxury. From the grand rooms with private balcony and canyon views to the infinity pool and jacuzzi set on the very edge of the canyon. Can you tell I’m very much into this canyon? After all that swimming make sure you get in some R&R at Anantara Spa.
The resort has three restaurants, a bar and deli cafe so you obviously have to check them all out. If you wanted something a little more exclusive you could arrange a private dinner on this gorgeous plateau above (we snuck this snap before the actual couple arrived! And yes Chris did copy my hairstyle). Everything we ate and drank was incredible. To help immerse yourself in the middle eastern culture don’t miss the rose tea and Arabian grill.
Things To Do
There are loads of activities run from the resort. We set off one morning on a cultural village walk to discover the three ancient villages nearby. Our guide Maher, who grew up in one of the villages, shared his first hand experiences and opened our eyes to what life was like here.
Soon after our cultural education turned into an adrenalin rush as we conquered the Jabal Activity Wall back at the resort. We abseiled down a 20m cliff and it was terrifying but gave us a real buzz knowing we faced death and survived (jokes It’s completely safe!)!
I can’t stop smiling as I write about this place! The uniqueness of the breathtaking landscape coupled with the tranquility and luxury of the resort made this one of those ‘pinching myself that I’m here’ destinations.
If you’re looking for somewhere a little different to explore, why not check out Oman.
A huge thank you to Oman Tourism UK and Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort for hosting us.
