Ljubljana is a pocketful of laid-back loveliness and 24 hours is the perfect amount of time to absorb the atmosphere of this city. Here’s our top tips for exploring the Slovenian capital.
On our travels we have come to appreciate a beautiful hotel and when in Ljubljana The Vander Urbani Resort is a great decision.
This boutique Design Hotel is in a stellar location right off the main strip of riverside restaurants with a rooftop infinity pool overlooking the river and colourful terrace houses. We retreated back here mid-afternoon for a swim and an Aperol Spritz and it was divine! Also, the deliciously fresh breakfast included made for a great start the following morning.

2. River Cruise
A relaxing way to take in the sights of Ljubljana and learn about the city is to take a river cruise. We jumped on a one hour guided cruise aboard the Barjanka for 10 euros per person.
3. Visit Ljubljana Castle
The castle boasts the best view over Ljubljana. Originally a medieval fortress built in the 11th century and rebuilt in the 12th it has since been transformed into a cultural space for the city with art exhibitions, a viewing tower and concerts and an open air cinema in the Summer.
4. Wander the streets of Ljubljana
So you’ve now experienced Ljubljana from the river and from up high, it’s now time to take to the streets to explore a little more. You’ll discover a load of pretty mixed in with some grittiness and a few quirky pops of colour.
5. Dine by the River
Settle in for the evening in one of the fabulous riverside restaurants and enjoy the tastes of Slovenian snacks and wine. It’s beautiful to watch the night roll in and the city lights turn on.
That’s it, so get your butt to Ljubljana!
