Have you ever been to the French Riviera? There’s something about the Côte d’Azur that’s nostalgic, romantic and dramatic, all at the same time. If you’re thinking of visiting soon, keep reading below to find out the 5 reasons why Cassis is THE place to visit in the French Riviera.
Having visited Nice once before, Phoebe and I were eager this Summer to get back to the French Riveria (a.k.a. Côte d’Azur). Phoebe, wonder wife and holiday planner extraordinaire, booked us in for Cassis. 100 points to Phoebe for this one, because my goodness! If you’re wondering where you should stay in this chic, historic and romantic region, look no further than Cassis.
Reason Number 1: Old Town Streets, Without the Crowds of Nice
Cassis has a beautiful, yet calm, Old Town. Whilst the streets aren’t as narrow and windy as Nice, it is relaxing to be able to wander them with minimal people around. If you’re anything like us though, this can be a problem… it takes forever to get anywhere because there’s photos to be taken!
Reason Number 2: The Harbour is not terrible.
If you’re looking for somewhere to savour your morning coffee, or you’re simply strolling, the harbour in Cassis is easy on the eyes. It’s also a glimpse into the opulence of the residents and tourists of Cassis – I had some serious yacht envy! Whilst the restaurants can be expensive here, it’s not all bad – we grabbed a reasonably priced burger at Le Bistro’ Quai.
Reason Number 3: The Beaches – all of them!
As Australians, we are suckers for having beach time included in our holiday itinerary. Cassis has a plethora of beaches to choose from, including those in and near the city, as well as those in the National Park nearby (we’ll get to those soon).
Reason Number 4: The Pastries!
Boulangerie, patisserie, eclair and croissant are some of my favourite French words! I know, you can probably find delicious pastries anywhere in the French Riviera, but these were so good!
Reason Number 5: Calanques National Park is Unbelievable
I know, the term unbelievable gets thrown around a lot (for example, ‘that coffee was unbelievable’ – was it?), however, this place is legitimately unbelievable.
Put on some decent walking shoes, pack a whole lot of water and of course, bring your camera. We stopped at three different swimming spots on our journey here, including Port-Miou, Port Pin and Calanque d’en-vau.
If you’re looking for a Summer escape that is as beautiful as it is classy, Cassis is absolutely for you.
Hope you enjoyed reading.
