There’s two words that make a visit to South Africa truly unique.
They’re childishly exciting – the anticipation of what you might see, the beauty of nature that surrounds you, and the awe (fear) that encapsulates you when you see one of the big five.
After a few nights in Johannesburg and a stint at Sun City, we had one spare day before boarding Rovos Rail. The lovely folks at Mongena Game Lodge were kind enough to host us, and we could not have been happier with our stay here!
With its thatched roofs, friendly staff and zebras roaming around the property, Mongena was a relaxed African Oasis only 45 minutes from Pretoria.
Now for the pics!
Now… the game drive. Oh. My. Goodness. Me.
Whilst enjoying two game drives (one at sunset, the other at sunrise), we kept our eyes peeled for the big five – Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino.
After loading into a custom-built range-rover, we were on our way to see some incredible animals!
What we found is that game drives aren’t just exciting, they refresh the soul too! Sure, it was incredible to see some lions and elephants, but just being out there in the bush was also hugely rewarding.
Enough words – time for pictures!
If you are looking for a game drive near Pretoria, we cannot recommend Mongena Game Lodge enough! We had such a wonderful stay here, and it’s one that will be in our memories for a long, long time!
