What are two Aussies supposed to do when they can see Christmas is coming, and there’s going to be no beach, no barbecue, and no family to share the day with?
Start researching “guaranteed white Christmas” online. If we’re going to be cold, then a rainy, grey Christmas just won’t cut it. We wanted a storybook Christmas.
The result? Saas-Fee. It’s not just the village where Wham shot their music video for Last Christmas, it’s also an idyllic village known as ‘the pearl of the Alps’.
First, Christmas Eve.
It was a whirlwind of a tour. We were there 28 hours. After arriving in Geneva on Christmas Eve, we took a train and a bus through some of the most incredible scenery and arrived in Saas-Fee.
That afternoon and the following day consisted of some breathtaking walks, some fondue, and a whole lot of photos being taken. It was way too soon to go back home, but on Christmas evening we jumped back on the bus and headed back towards the airport.
Christmas does not get any more memorable than this!
Okay, now pictures:
Then, back down the mountain before the 4pm Sunset. After a little more village admiring, it was time to return back to The Dom for some fondue. When in Switzerland, right?
After waking up and FaceTiming the family back in Australia, it was time to set out on a walk. If I (Chris) had a Swiss Franc for every time Phoebe starting whistling ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’, I’d have myself a nice little deposit for a Swiss bank account.
Then, it was time to go up. Way up. We grabbed the Alpin Express to get to 3500m, and my goodness was it spectacular.
From here, the view was, well… I feel like you need a new word for those times when you experience something and it’s completely unlike anything else you’ve experienced.
From here, it was back down the mountain, back to the hotel to get the bags, back to the bus, the train and the plane to get to the UK.
So, that was our Christmas!
Hope you enjoyed the pics. Stay tuned for our New Year’s Amsterdam trip.
